WING BOWL 16 OFFICIAL RULES, INCLUDING “WING OFFS”
How to Enter the Contest:
Qualifying entries will be accepted for Wing Bowl 16 from November 26, 2007 at approximately 5:30am to January 31, 2007 at approximately 10am or when the maximum of 50 participants have been selected.
a. There are 3 ways to qualify:
Up to 41contestants will be chosen to compete in Wing Bowl 16 by first calling the WIP Morning Show at 215-592-0610 or 856-963-0610 between November 28, 2007 and January 31, 2008 between 5:30am – 10am, with an eating stunt that they would be willing to perform for the members of the WIP Morning Team (i.e. eating a dozen donuts in 6 minutes, eating 10 bananas in 90 seconds, etc…).If the stunt is accepted, based on subjective criteria, by the WIP Morning Team to be worthy of attempt, a date will be set for the individual to attend the WIP Morning Show and perform the "stunt." If the eating stunt is performed successfully (i.e. the specified amount of a particular food is consumed within a specified period of time), the eating stunt will be declared a success and the individual will be eligible to compete in Wing Bowl 16 on February 1, 2008. WIP is not responsible for telephone service outages, delays, busy signals, equipment malfunctions and any other technological difficulties that may prevent an individual from completing his/her telephone call. ALL eating stunts must be approved by WIP’s legal department before a contestant is allowed to perform the stunt. Approval from the WIP Morning Team is only the first step in approval for a stunt to be performed and a contestant considered for Wing Bowl 16. The second and final step in the approval of an eating stunt is approval from the WIP Legal Department. A member of the WIP staff will contact the prospective stunt person by phone to inform them about whether their stunt has been approved or denied. On-air approval by the WIP Morning Team is not final confirmation that a stunt has been approved. WIP reserves the right to deny the performance of a stunt after the WIP Morning Team has granted on-air approval of the stunt.
Up to six (6) contestants will be chosen to compete in Wing Bowl 16 through Wing Offs. Wing Off competitions will take place at the following bar/restaurants in the tri-state area: Just Sports Bar and Grill in Bristol, PA; Trappe Tavern in Trappe, PA; Landmark Americana in Glassboro, NJ; Landmark Americana in West Chester PA; PJ Whelihan’s 2 locations Cherry Hill, NJ. Each Wing Off will take place on a different date and time. The exact date, time and location for each Wing Off event will be announced on-air during the WIP Morning Show weekdays between 5:30 am and 10:00 am at least 5 days prior to each Wing Off event. All contestants in “Wing Off” must present a valid government issued photographic ID to participate. Contestants must register onsite by filling out a registration form with their full name, complete address, daytime telephone number, and date of birth, and depositing the completed form onsite. Each “Wing Off” will entail a minimum of 2 contestants and a maximum of 50 contestants. WIP reserves the right to select and/or limit the total number of contestants based upon the order in which entries were received. “Wing Off” contestants will be given 5 minutes to eat as many wings as possible. A designated “Wing Off” official will determine the number of wings successfully consumed by each participant. The individual who eats the most wings in the “Wing Off” in 5 minutes will receive an entry to Wing Bowl 16 on February 1, 2008. In the event of a tie in the “Wing Off”, all tying individuals will compete head to head to see who can eat the most wings in 1 minute. If a tie remains after the initial 1-minute tie-break round, tying contestants will continue to eat in 1-minute intervals until a winner is determined by virtue of having consumed more wings than the other competitor(s).
One (1) Wing Bowl 16 contestant will be chosen through a competition called a “Studio Wing-Off”. All “Studio Wing Off” contestants will be pre-qualified by The WIP Morning Show in their sole discretion. Pre-qualifiers will be deemed as those individuals that came close to successfully completing their respective stunt (mentioned in Section a1) but ultimately failing to complete it or callers to the WIP Morning Team that did not perform a stunt but that the Morning Team deems worthy of entrance into the “Studio Wing Off”. Worthy entrants may be determined by factors including but not limited to the following factors: The caller’s willingness to perform a specific eating stunt or physical challenge and the caller’s enthusiastic personality. To qualify for Wing Bowl 16 by competing in the “Studio Wing-Off”, competitors must be present at the WIP studios on January 23, 2008 between 5:30am-10am to compete in a five-minute wing eating competition. “Studio Wing Off” contestants will be given 5 minutes to eat as many wings as possible. A designated “Studio Wing Off” official will determine the number of wings successfully consumed by each participant. The individual who eats the most wings in the “Studio Wing Off” in 5 minutes will receive an entry to Wing Bowl 16 on February 1, 2008. In the event of a tie in the “Studio Wing Off”, all tying individuals will compete head to head to see who can eat the most wings in 1 minute. If a tie remains after the initial 1-minute tie-break round, tying contestants will continue to eat in 1-minute intervals until one winner is determined by virtue of having consumed more wings than the other competitor(s).
WIP will automatically qualify Joey Chestnut (IFOCE- MLE World Champion) and former Philadelphia Champion El Wingador (Bill Simmons) into Wing Bowl 16 on February 1, 2008.
b. To participate in Wing Bowl 16, eligible competitors must be present at the Wachovia Center, 3601 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148 by 5:00am on Friday, February 1, 2008. Failure to show up on time may result in disqualification.
Eligibility Restrictions:
The contest is open to all WIP listeners who are 21 years of age or older and legally reside in the United States. Employees of WIP, its corporate parents, affiliated entities, its affiliated advertising agencies, participating sponsors/promotional partners, other radio stations in the Philadelphia metropolitan area and the members of their immediate families are ineligible to participate or win.
Wing Bowl 16 is an IFOCE officially sanctioned and sponsored event, any member of non-IFOCE professional eating organizations, including but not limited to AICE, are also not eligible to participate in the contest.
All contestants must be physically able to participate in the contest and must certify prior to participation that there is no physical, psychological, medical or other reason (i.e. heart condition, diabetes, food allergies, etc.) as to why the rapid consumption of a large quantity of food would adversely affect their health. All contestants must sign a participant release prior to participating in any portion of the contest, including the performance of the stunts, the “Wing Off” and “Wing Bowl 16”. Failure to do so will result in immediate disqualification.
Listeners are eligible to win a WIP contest only once every sixty days. Only one winner per household is permitted in any contest.
Listeners are eligible to win a prize valued at $600.00 or more only once every six months.
WIP reserves the right, in its sole discretion to disqualify a contestant(s) if he or she tries to publicize another business or radio station through their clothing or through what they say into the microphone during the contest. In addition, WIP reserves the right, in its sole discretion to disqualify a contestant(s) for disruptive behavior.
Prizes
The winner of each “Wing Off” (there will be a maximum of 6) will receive a slot in Wing Bowl 16 on Friday, February 1, 2008, but will not be compensated in any other fashion.
The winner of the “Studio Wing Off” will receive a slot in the Wing Bowl 16 on Friday, February 1, 2008, but will not be compensated in any other fashion.
A maximum of 41 contestants who successfully perform their approved eating stunt on the Morning Show will receive a slot in Wing Bowl 16 on Friday, February 1, 2008, but will not be compensated in any other fashion.
Grand Prize Wing Bowl 16 Winner will receive a 2008 Toyota Tundra, valued at approximately $23,816. Prize Winner will be solely responsible for any applicable vehicle title, license and registration fees, freight, delivery, dealer prep, emissions inspection, additional equipment, all federal, state and local taxes, insurance, gasoline, vehicle maintenance, all other fees and expenses not specified herein associated with the receipt and use of this prize vehicle. Any additional car options (including the interior and exterior color of the prize) not specified herein are subject to availability and will be the responsibility of the Winner. Prize Winner must provide proof of insurance and a valid driver’s license to take delivery and must take delivery at a dealership designated by WIP by March 17, 2008.
Half-time Wing Bowl 16 Winner will receive a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle 883 Sportster valued at $9000. Winner will be solely responsible for any applicable vehicle title, license and registration fees, freight, delivery, dealer prep, emissions inspection, additional equipment, all federal, state and local taxes, insurance, gasoline, vehicle maintenance, all other fees and expenses not specified herein associated with the receipt and use of this prize vehicle. Any additional motorcycle options (including the color of the prize) not specified herein are subject to availability and will be the responsibility of the Winner. Prize Winner must provide proof of insurance and a valid driver’s license to take delivery and must take delivery at a Barb’s Harley Davidson.
The Wing Bowl 16 contestant with the Best Entourage will receive a 73” High Definition big screen TV, TV base and a 450 watt 5.1 micro satellite home theater system with DVD player and radio from Camera and TV Stop. This system will also be installed for winner by Camera and TV Stop in Medford, NJ. ARV $8000.
Five (5) trips for two (2) persons will be awarded to five (5) different members of Wing Bowl 16 entourages. Winners will be chosen at the sole discretion of WIP. Selection will be based on but not limited to: overall appearance, creativity, etc. The trips will be to either Punta Cana or Cancun, Mexico.Trips include: round trip airfare via USA 3000 from Philadelphia to final destination and transfers to and from the resort. Valid travel dates TBD. Black out dates are 5 days before and after New Year’s, President’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Trips are confirmed 30 days prior to the winner’s requested travel date. If a date is sold out, winner will be asked to choose alternative travel dates. Provided by Apple Vacations (ARV of each trip: $3000). Winner and travel companion(s) are solely responsible for all applicable taxes, including, but not limited to, hotel, hospitality and airport taxes, telephone charges, meals, gratuities, transfers, spending money and any other expenses not specifically offered herein. Winner may be required to present a valid credit card upon check in at hotel to cover any incidental expenses. The guests of the prize winners must also be at least 18 years of age or older. Vouchers expire on 12/5/08.
Winner will be required to pick up voucher/s at WIP studios, 2 Bala Plaza, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004, that will need to be mailed to Apple promotions. If the winner loses their certificate, they are not replaced. WIP is not responsible for the safe arrival of a prize or prize certificate.
Contest prizes are not transferable. Prizes may not be substituted for or redeemed for cash.
Selection of Winners
Decisions of station management with respect to the contest are final. Contestants will not be chosen in any other way than which is listen in these rules.
No more than fifty (50) contestants will be selected to participate in Wing Bowl 16.
WING BOWL Rules:
During Wing Bowl 16, on February 1, 2008, there will be two (2) 14-minute periods, with a short break after each, followed by a final 2-minute period during which contestants will compete to eat as many chicken wings as possible.
Contestants’ entourage must remove all processional floats and attributed items from the Wachovia Center once the contestant is seated for competition
Contestants will be assigned two or more "Wingettes" who will be responsible for bringing the wings to each competitor. WIP is not responsible for miscalculations or inaccurate counts of wings provided.
Prior to the start of the competition, contestants will witness a demonstration of the minimum amount of meat that must be eaten on a wing in order for it to be counted in the final tally. Contestants who do not meet the minimum requirement will be given one warning, after which they will be penalized for each wing that is not properly and fully eaten. The Wing Bowl Commissioner – an individual to be named by the WIP Morning Show – will have the final say on the number of penalty points assessed.
The contest will be split into two (2) 14-minute periods, with a short break after each, followed by a final 2-minute period and tie-breaking rounds as necessary. Contestants may not leave the immediate area during the break, however they may stand up, stretch, have a drink of water, wipe their hands and faces and confer with their managers.
There will be twenty (20) wings on each plate. “Wingettes” will signal for a new plate when there are five wings left on a contestant's plate. Wings will be brought immediately.
Upon completion of the first 14-minute period, the ten contestants who ate the most wings in the first 14-minute period will qualify for the second 14-minute period. (“Semi-finalists”) All others will be asked to leave the competition area. If there is a tie, then the tied contestants will all qualify for the second 14-minute period.The amount of wings eaten during the first 14-minute round will count towards the final total of wings eaten.
Upon completion of the second 14-minute period, the five Semi-finalists who ate the most wings in the first and second 14-minute periods combined will continue to the Final 2-minute period (“Finalists”). If there is a tie, then the tied contestants will all qualify for the Final 2-minute period. All other contestants will be asked to leave the competition area.
Chicken meat must be eaten directly from the bones. Stripping the bones of meat first and eating the meat at one time will not be allowed.
Napkins in any form are not allowed
If a contestant leaves the wing-eating area for any reason during the contest, or eats any wings between periods, he or she will be disqualified from further competition.
Contestants may not make physical contact with other contestants at any time, any contestant who deliberately makes contact with another contestant will be disqualified at the sole discretion of WIP.
If a contestant purges or vomits at any point during the competition, he will immediately be disqualified.
Half-time Wing Bowl 16 Winner: Winner will be the contestant who eats the most wings in the first round of Wing Bowl 16, Each round is 14minutes long
Grand Prize Wing Bowl 16 Winner: At the end of thirty minutes the Finalists who has eaten the most chicken wings in all three rounds will be declared Wing Bowl 16 champion. The amount of wings eaten during earlier rounds will count towards the final total of wings eaten (ie the winning contestant will be contestant who has successfully consumed the most chicken wings during the entire 30 minute period).
In the event of a tie, a two-minute "eat-off" will be held between all tied Finalists. "Eat-offs" will continue until a single winner is declared.
All decisions and disputes will be decided on by Wing Bowl 16 commissioner. All decisions of the commissioner are final.
d. Best Entourage Rules:
Judging will take place after the entourage processions are completed. One winner will be selected and announced before the final round of Wing Bowl 16.
Judging criteria includes: best theme, most creative entrance, crowd reaction, best costume, presentation most theatrical, timely (theme represents what is pertinent in the news at that time).WIP reserves the right to disqualify anyone who is deemed to be behaving illegally, indecently, pornographically, in a sexually explicit manner, or otherwise offensively or whose performance is deemed at the sole discretion of WIP to be unsuitable for public viewing.
5. Conditions
Payments of all federal, state and local taxes are solely the responsibility of the winner. Winners may be required to sign an IRS Form W-9 or the equivalent.
By participating in the contest, the winner or winners agree to have their name, voice, or likeness used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this contest, and to sign a publicity release confirming such consent prior to the acceptance of the prize.
Contest winner will be required to sign a liability release prior to acceptance of any prize valued at $600.00 or greater or which prize includes the provision of transportation whether or not such transportation is provided by 610 WIP. Pursuant to the liability release, the winners will agree to hold 610 WIP, its corporate licensee, its parent corporations, affiliated companies and the officers, shareholders, directors, employees, agents and representatives of each of them harmless against any and all claims or liability arising directly or indirectly from the prize or participation in the contest.
d.610 WIP reserves the right to make changes in the rules of the contest, including the substitution of a prize or equivalent value, which will become effective upon announcement. If due to circumstances beyond the control of 610 WIP, airline flights to the city are cancelled or seriously disrupted, 610 WIP reserves the right, but not the obligation, to cancel or modify the contest and shall not be required to award a substitute prize.
e.No purchase is necessary. The contest is void where prohibited.
f.Failure to comply with the contest rules may result in a contestant's disqualification, at the sole discretion of 610 WIP.
g.610 WIP is not responsible for typographical or other errors in the printing, the offering or the administration of the contest, or in the announcement of a prize.
