2008 Philadelphia Eagles Update By Jordan Raanan of www.eaglesville.com- 9/11/2008

The Super Cocky Cowboys

Based solely on the Cowboys’ rhetoric, the rest of the NFL should just give up and concede the Vince Lombardi trophy. Nobody has a chance this season with all the talent that is on that Dallas team.

Terrell Owens declared on Thursday the ’08 ’Boys are “way more talented” than the ’04 Eagles. Yes, that’s the Eagles team that made the Super Bowl. Yes, this is the same Cowboys franchise that hasn’t won a playoff game since 1996.

It’s an interesting debate (one that is further broken down player by player on www.eaglesville.com), and T.O. is probably right. This Cowboys team is loaded, well beyond what the Eagles were in that magical year. Their players are much better than what is on the Eagles’ roster right now.

Does that mean the Eagles don’t have a chance come Monday night? Of course not. The simple cliché ‘Any given Sunday’ really isn’t that silly after all. Plus the Eagles, despite their incessant claim that it’s just another game, seem somewhat bothered by the Cowboys’ cockiness.

There are a lot of subtle hints being dropped around the NovaCare Complex that the Eagles are a bit perturbed with the Cowboys’ overconfidence. More aptly, it should be labeled overconfidence. If you watched HBO’s “Hard Knocks” it was obvious the Cowboys believe they are destined to make the Super Bowl. Donovan McNabb and the Eagles were watching.

“Well, I’ve been watching ‘Hard Knocks.’” Who hasn’t been? It’s been on,” Eagles McNabb said following Sunday’s 38-3 rout of the Rams. “They’re a confident bunch.”

As if the Eagles need extra motivation for a Monday night game against their biggest rival, well, now they have it. In T.O.’s eyes, the current Cowboys team is obviously much more talented than this Eagles team, because nobody would claim that the ’08 Eagles are even in the same stratosphere as the ’04 Eagles. That means the ’08 Cowboys must be comparable to the ’70s Steelers, ’80s 49ers or ’90s Cowboys teams. Minus having accomplished anything of course.

Notes:

• Reggie Brown (hamstring) was limited in practice on Thursday. He is questionable to play Monday night in Dallas.

• Andy Reid found out about the intensity of the Cowboys’ rivalry right before the first time his Eagles played Dallas. Reid bumped into an elderly lady in McDonalds before the game and she told him, “Hey, you better kick their a--.”
