Gary "G" Cobb

Garry “G” Cobb is a classic case of a former NFL star who transitioned successfully into a sports radio and television broadcaster.  Cobb’s 11-year career began in 1979 with the Detroit Lions, where he played for six years. He later played with the Philadelphia Eagles for three years and the Dallas Cowboys for two more.

Cobb joined the Eagles in 1985, when he was traded from the Lions for Eagles’ all-time leading rusher Wilbert Montgomery. During his tenure with the Eagles, Cobb played for some of the most popular defenses in team history. Lining up next to Hall of Famer Reggie White and superstar quarterback Randall Cunningham, Cobb helped terrorize opposing offenses under the immortal Buddy Ryan.

Playing outside linebacker in Ryan’s vaunted “46” Defense, Cobb had his best day as a pro against the Atlanta Falcons when he registered four sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.   This dominant game earned him Sports Illustrated’s “NFL Defensive Player of the Week” award.  His four-sack performance was the Eagles single-game record until Clyde Simmons racked up four and a half in a game a few years later.

After his football career, Cobb became a popular sports radio talk show host on Sportsradio 610-WIP in 1991.  He became known as G. Cobb and has developed quite a following amongst sports fans who have come to know him as the authority on the Philadelphia Eagles.  He’s also a regular on Angelo Cataldi’s morning show, where provides in-depth analysis of the Eagles during their season.

Cobb was previously a sports anchor and reporter on CBS-3 television in Philadelphia for eight years.  A little over a year ago, he created GCobb.com, an Eagles-heavy sports website that is known amongst the mainstream Philly sports media as a “must-read.”  The site has grown tremendously in a short amount of time and is one of the most popular local sports websites around.

G. Cobb is a newspaper columnist with the Philadelphia Bulletin, where he writes a column that appears on Tuesdays and Fridays.  Last year, he signed on with Comcast’s CN8 network and is a regular on their “Out of Bounds” football wrap-up show that airs every Monday night during the season.  Cobb is also a regular on Comcast Sportsnet throughout the entire year.

When he was in high school, Cobb was an All-American football, basketball and baseball player in Stamford, Connecticut.  He received numerous offers from universities throughout the country before deciding to go to the University of Southern California. While there, Cobb was an All Pac-10 linebacker who played on two Rose Bowl Championship teams and one National Championship team.

Garry is married to Gwendolyn Cobb and they have three children, Allie, Garry II and Allyse, plus two grand children, Azlan and Rayna. Garry II played football at Stanford University.

G. Cobb is also a highly sought after speaker, who has shown the ability to both entertain and motivate audiences nationwide.
