I don't think the reviewer has ever eaten at Rick's according to his review, The sandwiches ARE cooked to order. There is never a pile of beef steaming like at some of the other places mentioned. You should check your facts before you write reviews.

I no longer live in PA. but when I did I loved the cheesesteak at Ray's. On a Friday night the mound of steak on there grill was huge. The whole family in the kitchen. That's what I am talking about.

me and my buddy dave put the top so called steak places with pats and genos to the test and steves prince of steaks cant match and then this One Pounder place in Kensington. it was like your average pizza shop chopped steak but it was still better then pats and genos.

I think you really underrated Larry's. I've been there twice, and both times my cheese steaks were made to order and were certainly not "dry and tasteless." I am not saying Larry's should be in the top 10 or anything, but I think they make a very respectable steak.

I'll attest to the Chick's Deli recs. Close to perfect.

The best cheese steaks and hoagies come from Phil and Jim's in Parkside. The Pepper Mill? You're kidding with that, right?

Chick's Deli & Vito's Pizza (both in Cherry Hill) have 2 of the best cheeseteaks I've ever had. Both will beat a lot of the places on your list

Ciconte's on Rt 70 in Marlton is outstanding and I grew up on D'Allessandro's...which are stil great. On my way to Russo's in Wildwood to try them out.

The key word here is bakery. The Cheese Steaks and Hoagies are outstanding as attested by Best of Philly Awards for both. Get there early or the Crusty/Tender Italian bread and rolls will be "sold out".

Glad to see you kept Donkey's on the list. I would argue that it is a cheesesteak since it is fried rather than cut off a roast. I was a little disappointed it did not make the top 10, but that may just be a question of emphasis. With Donkey's, it's all about the onions.

I have to question your choice of #1. Good roll, cheesy and alot of steak but no way is it better than Chinks or even Steve's. Sliced meat on a roll beats chopped up second rate meat anyday. Why do you think places chop thier steaks?? Because its lesserquality meat!!!

Vicki's Deli - Cheesesteaks in Eddystone, PA I believe are the best. Not sure what they do but the flavor is great.

was a lifelong resident (Bucks County) of the Philadelphia area until 1998 when I moved to Colorado and now Phoenix, AZ. Just could not take the harsh winters and the dreariness of the Northeast. Accidentally saw a snippet on local TV about a cheese steak and hoagie place in Scottsdale AZ. Believe it or not they make real cheese steaks and hoagies in the Mexican southwest. All we usually get is tacos and burritos. Missed the good Philadelphia food and go to this real Philadelphia eatery here in Scottsdale, AZ. I asked them if they were really from Philly because many eating establishments say they make Philadelphia cheese steaks but it is a lie. The eatery here in Scottsdale is called Corleone%u2019s. I checked to make sure they were really from Philly when I asked them where their Philly establishment was and they knew where the Boulevard and Red Lion Road was. And when I heard they went to the Jersey shore (here they go to the beach ala California vernacular) I knew they were from Philly. The real test was when I said %u2018wid%u2019 and I got a cheese steak with Wiz. They had cans stacked up in the back.

As for the # 1, anything thats on a toasted roll is not a true philly cheesesteak. As for the disrespect of Genos and Pats, thats disrespecting philly tradition. Maybe you should stick to buffalo wings.

I wish i had commented earlier, Montigrillo in Pennsauken on Westfield Ave. Has one of the best cheesesteaks in the area. Trust me, i'm a huge cheesesteak critic & have been all over Philly, Jersey & beyond. This is a top 10 or lower. I've never had a cheesesteak at 4 of your top tens, but am putting them on my list. If anything venture over. You will be please.

LaForno in Media definately deserves attention for best in DE County. Their large with whiz, american or provolone are all consistently what you want in roll, moist and flavorful meat/cheese combination. They won a blind test of 6 DE County establishments (including Jim's in Springfield)at a recent neighborhood party!

I just tried Philly Mag's Best of the Burbs, Garret Hill Pizza near 'Nova. It's nect to the former Wild Onion on Conestoga. You won't be disppointed. Best combo of meat, cheese & bread..ever!

"Squishy" doesn't begin to describe the appalling quality of a Dalessandro's (more like Dalesloppo's) steak sandwich. Why oh why do judges overlook nearby Barry's Steaks in Roxborough who makes by far the better cheesesteak! Try Barry's sometime.

How long were you in the bar and how many beers did you have before you ate one of their cheestesteaks. The cheesesteak was just plain nasty, and the fries won best in philly? The fries were burnt, the cheese was that phony packaged stuff. I can't believe you ranked them at 5. It was more of a sloppy roast beef sandwhich than a cheesesteak. Stick to ranking movies because the Grey Lodge should not even be in the top 40. Also the it was expensive and the steak was only about 6 inches long.

I know this is ancient history now and I have a place that is outside the Philly area. I agree the Rossi burger is very nice. By far the best burger in the world is in Harrisburg, about 2 blocks from the capitol bldg. The Jackson House only serves lunch on weekdays unless the state is closed. If you ever get the chance go to 6th & forster and you will be born again!

The best I've ever had is the Special Steak Sandwich at Anthony's in Malvern but maybe that's because I add hot peppers to the mushrooms, pepperoni, etc. It's big but you will force yourself to finish it. Kim

then it's gotta be true, right? The Roman Pantry in Carneys Point, NJ (Exit 4 on I-295) is famed because Bruce Willis said they are "the best cheesesteaks in the world." While I don't necessarily agree they're the best in the world (Jim's gets that honor), they're pretty darn good and worth the drive. Especially for the 2-footers!

Glen, I think you should have two rankings, chopped and non-chopped. I prefer chopped but I never had a non-chopped cheesesteaks. So based on your reviews I guess I'll have to try one. To me it's a preference, I can't imagine a non-chopped being as goods as a chopped but I'll keep an open mind unlike the character that brought up dog food. Whatever... I think this is great what your doing because now I can go out and try these places myself. Not sure if you really have a bias against Delaware but I've just moved there from Chester Co (which has some great steak shops) and they have some great ones as well. Don't leave out Delaware.

Glen, you gotta give Pickles and Chips a try in North Wilmington just off of the the intersection of Foulk and Silverside Road. It's the only cheesesteak that has ever reminded me of the ones at the beer garden near where I grew up in Coatesville. Wewere only allowed in to buy the food because we were under aged but I had waited years to taste that taste again. It'll be worth your trip. Greg Pugh

Steaks on South is the best I've tried. The bread is always fresh and the portions are much larger than at other places. Definitely try it. You won't be disappointed
